1. India beats Australia 2:1 to win first bilateral series
The
Indian team scripted history on Friday, recording their first-ever bilateral
ODI series win in Australia, after emerging victorious by a margin of seven
wickets in the third and final ODI at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The
visitors registered a 2-1 win in the three-match series, after making a
comeback in the second and third ODI.
Leg-spinner
Yuzvendra Chahal played a key role in the victory, recording the best bowling
figures by a spinner in an ODI clash in Australia.
2. UP govt approves 10 percent quota for economically weaker
upper castes
In
a major development, the Uttar Pradesh government of Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday approved 10 percent reservation for
economically backward among upper castes in jobs and educational institutions.
The decision to this effect was taken during a
meeting of the state cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath,
senior cabinet ministers.
The development was confirmed by UP government
spokesperson Shrikant Sharma.
3. PM Narendra Modi to address three rallies in West Bengal:
State BJP chief
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi will address two public rallies in West Bengal this
month and another in Kolkata's iconic Brigade Parade Ground on February 8,
state BJP leader Dilip Ghosh said on Friday.
Ghosh also announced that a string of five BJP
rallies in the state, to be addressed by party president Amit Shah, will begin
on January 22 instead of January 20, due Shah's recent illness.
4. Centre sanctions 3 Naval Air Squadrons in Gujarat and Tamil
Nadu
The
Union Ministry of Defence has sanctioned three new Naval Air Squadrons which is
scheduled to be set up in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.
The two squadrons in Tamil Nadu will be set up
at Meenambakkam in Chennai and Ramanathapuram district; the third squadron is
in Gujarat's Porbandar district. They are of Medium Range Maritime Surveillance
squadrons.
The Centre has also sanctioned manpower towards
manning additional aircraft in existing Dornier Surveillance Squadrons in
Kerala and Andaman Islands.
5. Ranveer Singh-Varun Dhawan to step into Salman Khan-Aamir

Khan and Aamir Khan shared screen space together in a classic Rajkumar Santoshi
film 'Andaz Apna Apna' which released in 1994. The film gained a cult status
over a period of time and is still loved by the audiences for its sheer comic
timing and amazing performances by the star cast.
Well, the latest buzz right now is that 'Andaz
Apna Apna' might get a sequel. Yes! But before you start thinking, hold your
horses. According to Pinkvilla.com report, the producers of the original Vinay
and Priti Sinha are planning to relaunch the film as 'Andaz Apna Apna Reloaded'
as the film completes 25 years.
And the hot goss is that 'Simmba' actor Ranveer
Singh and 'Judwaa 2' star Varun Dhawan have been approached to play the leads.
The storyline and characters in this one will be different.
6. RIL Q3 Net rises 8.8% to Rs 10,251 crore
Beating
estimates, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on Thursday reported an 8.8
percent rise in its net profit for the third quarter ended December 31, 2018.
RIL's October-December quarter net profit was at Rs 10,251 crore compared to
the year-ago quarter.
RIL is the first Indian private company to post
Rs 10,000 crore profit in a quarter.
Its revenue rose by 56 per cent to Rs 171,336
crore in the third quarter of the current financial year, the company said in a
statement.
7. Stage set, top leaders arrive in Kolkata for West Bengal CM

stage is set for West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo
Mamata Banerjee's mega Opposition rally against the Narendra Modi government.
More than 20 national leaders, including former
prime minister H D Deve Gowda, former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha,
Shatrughan Sinha and Arun Shourie; three present chief ministers Arvind
Kejriwal, Chandrababu Naidu and H D Kumaraswamy; and former chief ministers
Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Akhilesh Yadav and Gegong Apang will attend the
meeting, TMC sources said. Most of them have already arrived in the city.
