Hardik Pandya was characteristically quirky as well as breathtaking and the highlight was the helicopter shot in front of its synonym, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, as Mumbai Indians humbled Chennai Super Kings by 37 runs during their clash on Wednesday.

Invited to bat on a track that offered good bounce, Mumbai scored 29 runs in the final over with Hardik doing the bulk of the scoring, his eight-ball 25-run blitzkrieg bringing the high-flying visitors to earth.

Struggling at 50 for three at one point, Mumbai scored 45 runs in the last two overs to post a total of 170 for five and then restricted their rivals at 133 for eight to post their second win in four games. Facebook's advertising system leans on racial, gender discrimination: Study

SAN FRANCISCO: Facebook Inc directs advertising to audiences in ways that could promote racial and gender discrimination, a new study showed, adding to allegations that prompted the US government to sue the world`s largest social media company last week.

Facebook`s algorithms, which match marketing messages with viewers, leans on stereotypes when it comes to housing and jobs, according to the study by researchers from Northeastern University, University of Southern California and advocacy group Upturn. The study was posted on arXiv, an online forum for research awaiting peer review, on Wednesday.

"Ad platforms themselves can shape access to information about important life opportunities in ways that might present a challenge to equal opportunity goals," said the group, whose university researchers have done separate studies on online ad systems.

Bad news for farmers as Monsoon rains predicted to be below normal this year; 15% changes of drought too

Monsoon rains 2019: The year 2019 might bring a big reason to worry for Indian farmers and the agriculture sector as it is believed that monsoon rains in the country are expected to be below normal this year. According to a report by private weather forecasting company Skymet, there is a 55 per cent likelihood of below normal monsoon for the year 2019 and what is worse is the prediction of around 15 per cent drought in the country. Monsoon which is the backbone of the country’s agriculture sector usually arrives on the southern tip of Kerala around June 1 and retreat from Rajasthan by September. The lack of monsoon bracket will have a large impact on India’s economy which is heavily dependent on monsoon rains as a majority of its population depends on agriculture for livelihood. Crops like rice, cotton, soybean, sugarcane, corn, cotton and others are produced during the monsoon season.

Monsoon rainfall is likely to remain ‘below normal’ for the four-month period from June to September, to the tune of 93 per cent (with an error margin of +/-5 per cent) of the long period average (LPA) of 887 mm, the report added further. The monsoon is likely to be 93 per cent of the long period average (LPA), the report said. Anything between 90-95 per cent of LPA falls under the "below normal" category. LPA is the average of rainfall between 1951 and 2000, which is 89 cm.

India's economy set to grow at 7.2 percent this fiscal year on rising consumption: ADB

New Delhi: India's economic growth is set to gain momentum and is expected to grow at 7.2 percent in the current fiscal on strengthening consumption, Asian Development Bank said in its flagship report released on Wednesday.

"Growth slowed from 7.2 percent in fiscal 2017 to 7 percent in 2018, with weaker agricultural output and consumption growth curtailed by higher global oil prices and lower government expenditure," according to the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2019.

It is expected to rebound to 7.2 percent in 2019 and 7.3 percent in 2020 as policy rates are cut and farmers receive income support, bolstering domestic demand, the report stated adding that sub-region wise, southeast Asia will sustain growth at close to 5 percent this year and the next.

Strengthening domestic demand will offset weaker export growth. Strong consumption, spurred by rising incomes, subdued inflation, and robust remittances, should boost economic activity in the subregion, it said.
